One of the social determinants of health is the world, or global environment, which affects the physical, intellectual, social, emotional, and spiritual health and wellness of individuals and communities. These include the social, economic, and political conditions which comprise the “environment” and fall outside the typical provider-patient relationship. Typically, these determinants indicate level of health and point out health disparities, as the more affluent communities have longer life expectancies and fewer illnesses than those who are in lower socio-economic levels. Global health indicators are the measurement of the social health indicators. Examples include: life expectancy, disability adjusted life years, quality adjusted life years, infant and child mortality, and morbidity measures.
